Catskill Regional Medical Center Hosts Free Film Screening of THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION

HBO documentary focusing on our nation’s obesity epidemic.

On Wednesday February 22, 2017 Catskill Regional Medical Center, in partnership with Eat Smart New York of the Hudson Valley Region, will host a special screening from part of an HBO documentary series addressing the national obesity epidemic. The film screening, which will be introduced by Dr. Lauren Roman, Director of Primary Care from Catskill Regional Medical Group, and guided discussion will be from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the hospital board room on the second floor of the Ambulatory Service Building at the Harris Campus.

THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION is a four-part documentary series, featuring case studies and interviews with leading experts and with individuals and families struggling with obesity. The series spotlights the facts and myths of this urgent public health issue, showing how obesity affects the health of the nation and cripples the health care system – and what individuals and communities can do. Some experts fear this may be the first generation of American children who will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

On February 22, Catskill Regional will show the third film of the series entitled, Children in Crisis and will we bring community agencies, health educators, school representatives and healthcare professionals together to discuss and examine the severity of the crisis, the major driving forces, and look at opportunities for agencies, organizations, schools and communities to fight the epidemic.

THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION documentary is a presentation of HBO and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and in partnership with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.

Eat Smart New York (ESNY) Nutrition Education is free to all individuals who qualify for and/or receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
