CRMC’S ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT RECEIVES PROCEEDS FROM COACHES VS. CANCER FUNDRAISER – 04/21/2011
April 21, 2011 – Harris, N.Y. – Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) received a check for more than $3,100 raised by four local high school basketball programs. The Monticello, Tri-Valley, Sullivan West and Liberty basketball programs held a basketball tournament fundraiser on Jan. 28 at Sullivan County Community College to raise funds for CRMC’s Oncology Department.
The third annual Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser, held in conjunction with the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY), was a joint effort by the programs to raise funds for local organizations. The effort combined last year’s successful ‘Pink Out’ and ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ fundraisers.
“It made sense to pool our efforts into one fundraiser, and to use the funds locally for CRMC’s Oncology Department,” said Liberty Coach Jason Semo. “It was a great time and we hope to do it again next year.”
On April 14, a group of 11 students (all of whom are team captains) and four coaches presented the check to Geri Orr, Assistant Vice President of Professional Services at CRMC. The group then took a tour of the Oncology Unit at CRMC.
“We truly appreciate the generosity of these local high schools, and it is great to see them work together to benefit the community,” said Orr, who oversees the Oncology Department. “We thank them for their donation to CRMC’s Oncology Department. The funds will be put to good use.”
Cancer Care at CRMC includes a well-developed oncology program that offers a multidisciplinary team approach combined with quality care. The program continues to be distinguished by the excellent and compassionate patient care it provides.
