Catskill Regional Medical Center Hosts Latch-On in the Garden Event Supporting National Breastfeeding Month
August is National Breastfeeding Month!
Catskill Regional Medical Center in collaboration with the Sullivan County Breastfeeding Coalition are inviting nursing mothers to come together on Thursday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. for the Latch-On in the Garden event. The gathering will be held in the Woodland Wildlings Garden, which is located behind Catskill Regional Medical Center’s main campus at 68 Harris-Bushville Road in Harris.
The Latch-On in the Garden event is meant to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and will include time to share experiences with fellow breastfeeding mothers, socialize and relax among others mothers, children and breastfeeding supporters.
All breastfeeding mothers and their families are invited to attend. There will be gifts for breastfeeding moms and refreshments will be served.
In addition, there will also be a breastfeeding walk at 2:30 p.m. in Monticello on the same day, August 2. The group will gather at the farmer’s market located in Joe’s Park at 515 Broadway Road. The group will take a 15 minute walk and return for a mother’s circle as the farmer’s market at this location opens at 3:00 p.m.
National Breastfeeding Month is celebrated every year in August to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. Since the launch of the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding (SGCTA) in 2011, the breastfeeding field has grown by leaps and bounds.
The Sullivan County Breastfeeding Coalition is a collaborative effort among numerous organizations that provide services to pregnant women, new parents and babies. The Coalition also includes mothers from the community and works to create a breastfeeding friendly community.
