Support Groups and Community Classes
Catskill Regional Medical Center offers a number of support groups and community classes on various topics. Information on each group including location and schedule can be found below.
Alzheimer’s Association Educational Program Series
Join us for a two part educational series by Alzheimer’s Association, hosted in the CRMC Medical Library on the Main Floor at 68 Harris Bushville Road:
- Part 1 – May 11, 2017 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
“Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters” – This program offers an overview of the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s to aid early detection. Early detection is vital as it allows time to take advantage of drugs that mitigate symptoms, particpate in clinical trials and plan for the future.
- Part 2 – June 8, 2017 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
“Healthy living for your brain and body: Tips from the latest research” – This program provides information from the latest research on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement and offers hands-on tools to help you form a plan for healthy aging.

Adult General Bereavement Support Group
Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties holds an Adult General Bereavement Support Group at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at CRMC’s Adult Day Care Center in Harris. The group is free of charge and open to anyone in the community. For additional information, contact Martha Johnson at 845-561-6143 ext. 201.
Aphasia group provides group therapy to those living with aphasia in order to improve or maintain communication competence. Group therapy offers a chance for participants to practice communication skills in a social context with peer and clinician support available as needed. Participants are also able to connect with fellow aphasia victims who share similar experiences. During group meetings, participants will work collaboratively to complete tasks, monitored by a speech therapist, in order to provide additional communicative support. The group will meet in the Catskill Regional Medical Center Boardroom at the Harris Campus on the first and fourth Thursday of every month at 5:30 pm. Start date TBD. Better Breathers offers the opportunity to learn ways to better cope with COPD while getting the support of others. This group meets on the second Thursday of each month (April to November) at 3:00 p.m. in the Boardroom at CRMC in Harris. Breastfeeding Support Group
This support group helps mothers gain support and learn from the knowledge and experience of fellow nursing mothers. Facilitated by a Registered Nurse, breastfeeding peer counselor and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the participants will learn new ideas and techniques to try and improve their own breastfeeding success at home. The group meets the first and third Thursday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Staff Development Classroom located on the third floor of the ASB Building at CRMC in Harris. Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group
This support group meets the first Tuesday of the month from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Boardroom at CRMC in Harris and is led by Glorianne Ellison, Certified Oncology Nurse and Elisa Mendels, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Without discussing individual physicians and practices, this group helps participants find support with one another while also discussing the adjustment to life as a breast cancer survivor. Registration is not required, but is preferred. Please call 845-794-3300, ext. 2831.
Learn what to expect during the phases of childbirth. Childbirth Classes are offered by Maternal Infant Services Network of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties, Inc. regardless of where you plan to deliver. Diabetes Discussion Group
The Diabetes Discussion Group provides education and support to those with Diabetes. This group meets at various dates and times throughout each month at CRMC in Harris. For meeting dates, times, locations and more information, please contact the Diabetes Education Staff at 845-794-3300, ext. 2106.
Emergency Care Institute
In honor of its commitment to the local community, Catskill Regional Medical Center has created an Emergency Care Institute. The Institute offers a series of free courses to assist local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedics in Sullivan County to meet their requirements for New York State certification.
All classes will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and will take place in Catskill Regional’s Board Room, 2nd floor, Ambulatory Surgery Building, 68 Harris-Bushville Road, Harris, NY 12742.
Classes will qualify attendees for the New York State required Continuing Medical Education Core Content. Please ask for more information about qualifications when you register.

Hearing Loss Support Group
CRMC’s Hearing Loss Support Group, supported by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), is held quarterly in the Boardroom at CRMC in Harris. Dr. Deborah Lynn, a local audiologist, provides individuals with the latest information about the impact of hearing loss and the technology options available, and encourages participants to discuss strategies to manage hearing loss. Men’s Cancer Support Group
This support group meets the third Tuesday of the month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Boardroom at CRMC in Harris. Led by Catskill Regional’s infusion center nurses, this group provides support and education for those afflicted with cancer. Men with any type of cancer. There will be time during the support group to ask questions and obtain support from fellow group members. Registration is not required. Please call 845-794-3300, ext. 2831 for information.
Overeaters Anonymous Rotating Literature Meeting
The Rotating Literature Meeting of Overeaters Anonymous meets every Sunday from 10:30 to 11:30 am in Boardroom A at CRMC in Harris. Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of individuals who through experience, strength and hope, are overcoming the compulsion to overeat one day at a time. Parental Bereavement Support Group
The Parental Bereavement Support Group is intended for parents who have lost a child. Many parents struggle after the loss of a child and don’t know where to turn for support. This new group is intended to be an open forum for people in similar circumstances who are looking for support. This support group is sponsored by Catskill Regional Medical Group and hosted by Deb Martin.
We will be meeting the first Monday of each month 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Catskill Regional Medical Group – Primary Care suite at Harris (1st Floor Ambulatory Services Building).
Please note: Due to a work commitment the May Parental Bereavement Support Group will meet on Monday, May 8th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Primary Care Suite on the first floor of the ASB.
Parkinson’s Support Group
The Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month (April – November) at 5:30 p.m. in the Lab Conference Room at CRMC in Harris. This group offers education and support for those affected by Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers. Everyone is welcome. For more information, please contact Harriet Gelinson at 845-292-6521.
Stroke Education & Support Group
The Stroke Support Group is held on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center in Conference Room 1 (Ground Floor). This support group focuses on stroke “recovery” with emphasis on promoting continued recovery and quality of life after formal treatment stops. Women’s Cancer Support Group
This support group is open to all women with a diagnosis of cancer. The group setting will provide health information, education, resources and brings together women in a common place to share experiences, concerns and fears as they battle cancer together. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Board Room located on the second floor of the ASB Building at CRMC in Harris. Women’s Support Group for Survivors of Sexual Assault
