October 24, 2012 - Harris, N.Y. - The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event to raise funds for the Rape Intervention Services and Education (RISE) program of Sullivan County, administered by Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC), is being moved from October to April 20, 2013. More details are coming soon.
Men, women and children -- many of them wearing red shoes -- participate in this fun annual event, which takes a light-hearted approach to a very serious subject and increases awareness of how sexual assault impacts individuals and families in Sullivan County.
“The Walk a Mile In Her Shoes® event is becoming a very popular fundraiser in Sullivan County, and we are grateful for the strong support we have received in previous years,” said Sarah Dittmar, Program Manager of RISE. “We are moving the event to coincide with Sexual Abuse Awareness Month. The tie-in is powerful and we hope that it will be our most successful year of not only raising funds, but also of building awareness of what RISE does.”
RISE advocates for anyone who is or has been a survivor of sexual abuse. Founded in 1987, RISE provides an array of services to survivors of sexual abuse and offers prevention education, advocacy and assistance to survivors, and accompanies them to the hospital, police or district attorney after an incident. RISE also offers confidential individual, family or couples counseling as well as support groups and professional training sessions. The program maintains a 24-hour crisis hotline number, which is 845-791-9595. The RISE program is funded by grants, in part provided by the Sullivan County Rural Health Network.
