May 14, 2012 - Harris, N.Y. –In its continued efforts to become a green, environmentally responsible member of the community, Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership. The partnership recognizes CRMC’s efforts to use green power and be environmentally conscious.
Since February of 2012, CRMC has converted to single-stream recycling and entered into a contract with Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to match 10 percent of its electricity. Both programs combined are estimated to save the hospital close to $100,000 annually.
The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that encourages organizations to buy green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with electricity use. The partnership currently has more than 1,300 partner organizations voluntarily purchasing billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually.
