SULLIVAN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CRMC JOIN FORCES—08/25/2009
SCCC AND CRMC EDUCATE FUTURE RESPIRATORY CARE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY (August 25, 2009) – Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) President Dr. Mamie Howard-Golladay and Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) Chief Executive Officer Steven Ruwoldt joined forces yesterday in an effort to educate future respiratory care health professionals. The two officials signed a memorandum of understanding establishing the Sullivan Respiratory Care Consortium as well as a letter of intent co-sponsoring a new respiratory care associate’s degree program. As part of the agreement, SCCC would offer the proposed associate of applied science degree, which would enable students to work as respiratory therapists or respiratory care practitioners in hospitals and other health care facilities. CRMC would hire the program director as well as serve as one of the clinical sites for students accepted into the program. “Sullivan County Community College has been collaborating with Catskill Regional Medical Center for many years, as the center is both a clinical site for our nursing students as well as a major supporter of our successful LPN to RN Evening/Weekend nursing program,” Dr. Howard-Golladay said. “The college is delighted to be teaming up with them again in order to educate even more health care professionals to serve our local community.” Ruwoldt stated, “Programs such as this are vital to CRMC’s mission of improving the health of our community by providing exceptional care. We are thankful that the college recognizes the need for this program and look forward to working with them to make it a very successful one.” The proposed degree program, which must be approved by the State University of New York and the New York State Department of Education, is anticipated to launch in the fall of 2010. Founded in 1962, SCCC is a two-year community college and a unit of the State University of New York. It offers 40 associate degree and certificate programs, as well as a variety of continuing education and specialty courses, on its 405-acre campus, online and through its distance learning program.
