RISE PROGRAM TO HOST WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® FUNDRAISER APRIL 26

RISE - Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Harris, N.Y. – The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event to raise funds for Catskill Regional Medical Center’s Rape Intervention Services and Education (RISE) program of Sullivan County will be held on April 26, 2014 at the Sullivan County Government Center in Monticello. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk kicks-off at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow and will include a short program, refreshments and raffles.

Sarah Dittmar“The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is a fun way to raise awareness in the community about sexual assault, which may be a difficult subject for some to openly discuss,” said Sarah Dittmar, RISE Program Manager. “Our goal is to prevent all forms of violence in our community and this starts by talking about it.  We hope to engage and educate the public to become active bystanders by taking a stand against bullying, physical violence, gender violence and sexual assault.”

All are welcome to walk and register on the morning of the event. Men are encouraged (but not required) to walk in women’s shoes. The registration fee is $20 and participants may also secure contributions through pledges. Walkers can raise money to support the cause by visitingwww.crmcny.org and pledging through a user-friendly, secure Web site. RISE advocates for anyone who is or has been a survivor of sexual abuse. Founded in 1987, RISE provides an array of services to survivors of sexual abuse and offers prevention education, advocacy and assistance to survivors, and accompanies them to the hospital, police or district attorney after an incident. RISE also offers confidential individual, family or couples counseling as well as support groups and professional training sessions.
