CRMC TO OFFER FREE CANCER SCREENINGS FOR ELIGIBLE WOMEN – 07/21/2011
Events to take place on July 25 and July 28
July 21, 2011 – Harris, N.Y. – Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC), in conjunction with the Sullivan County Cancer Services Program, will hold free breast, cervical and colon cancer screenings for eligible uninsured and underinsured women over the age of 40. The screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 25 at the CRMC Women’s Health Center at 60 Jefferson Street in Monticello, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at the CRMC Livingston Manor Family Health Center at 36 Pearl Street in Livingston Manor.
According to estimates from the American Cancer Society, more than 190,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women died of the disease last year. Screening for breast cancer with a clinical breast exam and a mammogram can help physicians detect early forms of the disease, when it is most treatable.
Eligible women can receive a breast exam, mammogram (only available at the Women’s Health Center) and a pelvic exam with a PAP test; women over 50 may be eligible for a convenient, take-home colorectal cancer screening kit. Appointments are limited and pre-registration is required. Uninsured/underinsured women over the age of 40 who are interested in these free screenings should contact 845-794-3300 ext. 2115 to see if they are eligible and to make an appointment.
