CRMC AND ORMC TO HOST FREE DIABETES EVENT – 11/10/14
Middletown, NY- Catskill Regional Medical Center and Orange Regional Medical Center will present a free and informative diabetes program, “Find Your Inner Peace with Diabetes” on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center, 707 East Main Street, Middletown, NY. The event will be held in the Conference Center on the ground floor. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
Diabetes educators and experienced physicians knowledgeable about diabetes will be on hand to discuss topics such as The New Age of Diabetes; Dealing with the Ups and Downs of Diabetes; Improving your Hospital Experience and Taking the Stress out of Planning your Meals. Guest speakers will include Bruce Ellsweig, MD, Elliott Friedman, MD, Shelly DeHaan, RD, CDE and Laurie Porcaro, RN, BS, CDE.
According to the American Diabetes Association, there are over 25 million children and adults in the United States – 8.3% of the population – who have diabetes. In 2010, 1.9 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older.
“Diet, insulin, and oral medication to lower blood glucose levels are the foundation of diabetes treatment and management,” said Manager of the Orange Regional Dunkelman Diabetes Center, Shelly DeHaan. “Patient education and self-care practices including exercise and lifestyle modification are also important aspects of disease management that help people with diabetes lead normal lives.”

In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Catskill Regional Endocrinologist Dr. Kolo Ediale and Diabetes Education Data Reporting Specialist, Barbara Shields, supported the “Crush Diabetes T-Shirt Dress Down Day” fundraiser.
