The Birthing Center at Catskill Regional Medical Center, opening in the fall of 2006, will offer the best possible environment to welcome a new life into the world. The modern, state-of-the-art facility will offer the latest equipment and home-like comfort. The nursing staff will be trained in a philosophy that embraces the entire family and provides the support needed for families to celebrate the miracle of birth. Newborns will stay with moms in private rooms and both will be cared for as a unit by the same nurse. The mother-baby model of care will allow staff to teach parenting skills, while it nurtures bonding and attachment in the new family. A respite nursery will provide for infant care away from the mother if requested. Individual choices are respected.
